Meet Kristen
Dr. Kristen Rosen Gonzalez is a Miami Beach native whose roots run deep in the community—her parents met in the lobby of the iconic Fontainebleau Hotel. She grew up on Miami Beach surrounded by a rich tapestry of cultures, including Cuban exiles and descendants of Holocaust survivors.
After earning her undergraduate degree from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, Dr. Rosen Gonzalez returned home to South Florida, where she has continued to live, work, and raise her family. She is the proud mother of three children—Isabella, Pablo, and Franny—all graduates of Miami Beach Senior High. Her desire to create a better future for her children and for the broader community inspires her continued civic engagement and public service.
Dr. Rosen Gonzalez is a tenured faculty member in the English and Communications Department at Miami Dade College and a licensed realtor. She was elected to the Miami Beach City Commission in both 2015 and 2021, where she has built a reputation as a tireless advocate for public safety, education, and responsible development.
A passionate defender of Miami Beach’s historic character, she has championed the preservation of Art Deco architecture and led efforts to save key community landmarks, including the Byron Carlyle Theater and the South Shore Community Center. She also spearheaded successful referendum campaigns to preserve Monty’s and protect public parking on Lincoln Road from overdevelopment.
Dr. Rosen Gonzalez holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and a Master of Arts in Communication from Barry University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in French and Spanish Language and Literature from Tufts University.
She continues to be a dedicated public servant, educator, and advocate—committed to protecting the unique quality of life that defines Miami Beach.
